Presentations

Creating effective and engaging presentations is a skill I have honed through several years of experience. Below are some of my best practices and techniques for presenting like a pro.

Designing Readable Slides

One of the best ways to create compelling yet readable slides is to use the assertion-evidence approach. Your headline should be a complete sentence (assertion) and supported by a photo, chart, or graph (evidence). This avoids the dreaded “death by PowerPoint” bullet-list method common in many presentations. Check out excerpts and examples in Presenting: You! (PDF)

Keeping audience attention

Audience attention spans are notoriously short. Keep your presentation moving by reducing bullet points and spending less than 2 minutes per slide. Explore my collaborative presentation about presenting to an audience to learn more.
